What happens when you get everything you've worked for, only to discover it's not what you really want?

Dan O'Leary worked night and day to finish law school, join a top firm, and make partner all before the age of thirty-five. He's found a man who swept him off his feet, and his best friend of twenty years has his back.

His growing discontent with his job has Dan considering a change, but a series of betrayals, professional and personal, lead Dan to reconsider his whole life.

Making a fresh start, Dan meets the people of Blue Ridge, Georgia, including Chief of Police Nick Oliver, and, perhaps, finds a new home. But danger from his old life follows him and puts not only his life, but that of his new friends, at risk.

This was a good read. I liked the characters - especially Dan & Nick...and Patsy. Nice start to the series. I would have liked more of a resolution to the story in this one as I felt too many plot lines were left dangling, but I realize it was mostly a setup for the continuing storyline.

The Broken Road Cafe The Broken Road Cafe #1 edition by TA Webb Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

T. A. Webb is an excellent writer. His stories are in depth, well thought out, and always have a lot of action going on. The characters are always interestingly tough, take no prisoners sorta personalities. Dan and Nick are great and the interaction between them is well done. The small town persona is also well done (I live in one and it is exactly like Blue Ridge!). Looking forward to the next installment to find out what happens next (dagnabit).
4 stars
There was a...*sniff* cliff hanger...*wipes tears*
I really liked this. It went quickly, and I realized pretty early on that everything I wanted to happen wasn't going to fit, but the story was interesting. The characters were great (except for the gang of douchebags!)Patsy was fantastic as well as charity. I liked Dan...he wasn't what I think of in a typical "hero" kind of guy, but I did like him (oh and my heart hurt for him, too!) And Nick...good Lord! He was killing me. Super interested to see where the story is going, everybody is all twisted up in this mess.
It's always fun to pick up a new T.A. Webb story and become instantly engrossed in the plot and to build ties with the characters. And here is no exception. Tom had me interested within the first sentence and completely mesmerized by the end of the first paragraph.

I was not only sympathizing with the main character, Dan, but empathizing as well; so realistic is Tom's descriptions of Dan's feelings and circumstances. What also kept me turning pages was the suspense and intrigue. No sooner was one question answered when bam, at least one more of such import was introduced.

Questions, answers, suspense, mystery, emotions dripping off the pages; I anxiously await the next installment of this moving tale.
A terrific story . . . yes, it was irritating when the story abruptly stopped. I would have liked some warning - SAY LIKE THE FIRST PAGE! Tell me that this is a TRILOGY!

That was my only complaint - yes, there were some problems with editing - I just ignored them and continued reading

Attorney, hunk, and small town - what's not to like!!! The author does a fine job with telling the tale! I love major plot and the subplots; all made the reading so much fun! NOW . . . I want to know what happens next! Drugs, small town, hot small town sheriff ! I can hardly wait for the next in the series; I do hope that the author has a trilogy in mind! TERRIFIC READ!
Wait! What? NO!!!! That was my reaction when I came to the end of the book. I'm not going to tell you what happens, because I hate giving spoilers. But.....let's just say I'm so glad that this is book #1 and I'm anxiously awaiting more to follow.

Dan is an attorney. Nick is the Chief of Police. An unlikely coupling? Not in this case. But a rocky start to be sure. Boy, oh boy, did the rocky start work in this story. I absolutely loved Mr. Webb's dialogue between these two characters. It was at times snarky, witty, cute, and serious. These two guys are well rounded characters. The supporting players in this small town were awesome and fun.

There is a serious side to the story and it's well developed and had me hanging on the edge of my seat. I love how the author's brain works!

Thank you for such a great story, Mr Webb. I Ioved it!
This review covers both books in the Broken Road Café series. You can't have one without the other and the thing that struck me at the outset was how absolutely genuine the setting, characters and culture is every step of the way, from Atlanta to Blue Ridge , from fed-up attorney Dan O'Leary to uptight small town police chief Nick Oliver, to all the characters in the café and beyond. Having spent some time in this part of the world, I was struck by the fact that no matter the character, setting or set of circumstances, nothing could be termed far-fetched, which is the trap author Webb has set for us when the stuff really hits the fan.

"The Broken Road Café" covers Dan's journey from about to be screwed to unscrewing his heart as he leaves the law firm he's slaved for in Atlanta and takes off for nowhere in particular, and ends up in Nowhere (Blue Ridge), Georgia. There he is introduced into the ways of the small community by Nick Oliver, who is happy to ticket him for speeding in his extremely expensive Maserati, and there he also stumbles into the diner where he will find good food, good people, and in his hopes as he goes on, a good life.

The specter of something sinister begins to cloud Dan's plans, in business and in romance as he lusts for Nick and Nick returns the lust but won't be budged from his closet. A number of down home and citified folk march through this book, including a hilarious but downright essential Chastity, Dan's former secretary.

The first book comes to an abrupt, indecisive end, with Dan facing betrayal and danger, but the action heats up in the second one, "Brothers in Arms." Dan, Nick, Chastity, Nick's brother and Nick's best friend, the head football coach, are caught up in crossfire plots that raise the hairs on your head and turn what Dan had hoped for as a quiet life with an open love into a chaotic scene with more betrayal, hypocrisy, violence and genuinely hot and steamy sex than you can almost possibly stand.

But you will. Wonderful and tantalizing, you will hardly catch your breath after finishing the first book in your haste to start the second.
Really like this story. Really love the characters. It's great the way Webb embraces stereotypes but manages to create fresh interesting characters. Looking forward to reading the next one
