I'm 85 years old- and remembered this from my childhood (11 yrs old or so?). So I read it again to learn why it was so memorable.. It is essentially about inner conviction in the face of social ostracism and cynicism ("right thinking") on the part of one's social peers and family. It is about the possibility of the innocence of the young finding a way to confound adult expectation, judgement and conventional pride/corruption–and it is about saintly sacrifice in pursuit of individual dignity. A story of idealism in a never-ending Mideast (really planetary) setting. A book for the young and the reflective young at heart and far better than the super heroes of today's comic book world.Product details

Great moral to this story. I loved it! I liked the surprise twist at the end. We often judge people without truly knowing them.
I remember this story from junior high and loved it just as much as the first time I read it!
This is a terrific book--a favorite since our family read it together more than 50 years ago. I have purchased many copies over the years and am now buying them for my grandchildren. The hero story of Arabia is full of adventures, challenges and character. And it's not fantasy or science fiction. It would make a great movie. Maybe someone will discover it.
I loved this story! And I loved the illustrations! This book is one that even though I have it on my , I would love to by a paper / book copy to have on my bookshelf to pull down and read, over and over again. It is such a great story of the injustice of judging a person who is different, but capable of being strong in their own way.
I had read an excerpt from this book many years ago in my Colliers Junior Classics. Did not like it much then. Still did not like it now. So much for the effect of age and experience on the human mind
