In a sea of heavily-padded self-help books, this one cuts right to the chase. I have already gifted my Mac to my son, so he can't overshadow my brilliant new career, and downloaded my pirated copy of Word (no sense paying money up front). Thanks Jet, for saving me from the tedium of writing real stories. What was I thinking?
This made me giggle at work. A lot of the points are annoyingly relevant to indie authors and the way we market. This is, for your money, the best how-not-to on the market.
I wish it was longer and updated. Buy this, and be a better, more polite author.
This booklet shoves it right, smack, "in-your-face!" -- the lack of morals and outright dishonesty used by many authors who abuse the system in order to promote their e-books. No way is this satire.
Thank goodness someone out there has finally had the courage to tell the honest truth about self-publishing! I've been doing it all wrong up until now. I've spent tens of dollars hiring a graphic artist for each cover. I've spent hundreds of dollars for editing on each of my books when all I had to do was use Microsoft Word spellcheck! Who was I to disagree with the wisdom of Microsoft when it tried to tell me that ALL instances of the word `its' actually needed an apostrophe? I should have allowed it to add irrelevant words instead of names. And the semi-colons... oh, so many semi-colons I should have used but didn't because I didn't listen to the wisdom of Word! Oh, stupid, stupid me!
All this time I have been working hard to polish manuscripts, enlisting the help of professionals where necessary when all I needed to do was hammer out some words, run it through spellcheck and accept all changes, then slap a cover on it using Microsoft Paint! And the marketing! Years of painstaking research, networking, learning proper internet etiquette... wasted when all I needed to do was SPAM the hell out of everyone every two minutes.
My heartfelt thanks to Jet Elway for revealing the secrets other million billionaires have kept hidden from the public. I am on my way to fame and riches now! Ok, my sales haven't increased YET, but I'm confident that with enough spamming, things will change very soon.
I don't normally get out of bed for less than a million jillion dollars, but this book opened my eyes to the fact that I have been too rigid in my thinking. All this time, I've been investing in improving the quality of my writing instead of a metaphorical whack-a-mole mallet to pound the marketing message home. What a sucker I was! Off to Twitter to spread the new revelation! BUY! BUY! BUY!
